Late August saw the opening of the Velvet Night Tea Room.
Upon arrival we was greeted with a smile and a menu of the delightful blends that would be on offer during the course of the evening, and closer examination of the menu proved that there would be a blend for every taste.
Our maître d’ and host for the evening was the impeccable Rudie Ruthless, who performed his duties in a manner that was completely in tune with the the evening. Plus we were to find out that his duties were not to be confined to just maître d’ and host.

Our maître d’ and host for the evening Rudie Ruthless
Assisting Rudie for the evening by doing the setting up and clearing away (ok yes a nice way of saying waitressing) was the delicious trio Marco Di Melanotte, Sadie Toofast Tootsie, and Velvet van Hoos, although the three were all very well behaved and would perform their duties expertly, it was however to come to light that the ladies were more Gangster than Gangster moles, and even more shocking that they were more Gangster than the Gangster but in the end they aided in capturing the essence of the Tea Room.
Layla de Light was the first of the Earl(y) Grey Exotic Flavours, her rich strong blend soon set the tone for the rest to follow and was a pleasurable start to the evening, a fine mix of richness with a strength all it’s own, this was pleasing on each level it took you.
Next we was offered the fine blend of Lucy & Vivian. This was a cheery flavour that started your toes tapping and you could not help but smile as the two ladies took you on a most pleasurable journey, and I liked that 😉
Supplying us with a taste of a Tropical Tea was the amazing Randy of Finland, his was an adventure from start to finish, with a reminder to watch out what might crawl into your Tea or Tent if you do not keep your eyes open or your tent fastened.
Next we was to be served up a middle eastern blend by the lovely Millie Mimosa. It was clear that Millie has been nurturing and cultivating this exotic mix to be able to add just the right amount of flavours and spices to tickle our taste buds.
A fiery spicy blend in the form of Sophie le Sucré took us into a break, and what a combination of fiery spices it was. I have waited a long time for a taste from Sophie and I have to say that I was not disappointed, this was just the right amount of everything.
Our next treats were to be the Darjeelings and other Delicacies.
The sweet Gigi Praline served us up her dark blend with a hint on diamonds for that added sparkle, this is a delicacy that I really enjoy and Gigi does this so very well that you savour every moment of it.
Juggling her talents next was the wonderfully entertaining Pepper sparkles. This fun blend has it’s up’s and down’s, but never fails to shine all the while. Pepper is such a joy to watch and her obvious enjoyment never fails to come through.
Bringing in a wonderfully earthy and fruity sweetness was the most fun you can imagine Kiki Hawaiji. Her blends are so fruity and delicious that she could almost make her own fruity flavoured Tea right before your eyes.
Following this we were treated to a fine stallion from the one and only Sir Willy Waterlily. His strength and passion clearly shone through in this, and left us all with a smile on our face.
The lovely Wivian Wondrous joined with Rudie Ruthless (see I told you he did extra duties), this on it’s own would have been treat enough, but then Millie Mimosa was infused into the mix creating the most wonderful The Topsy-Turvy Girls with added cream.
The last Temptations and Black Gunpowder was set off by the fantastic duo of L’Rubia Finessa & Charles del Corte, their glamour and glitz was the perfect blend for the evening.
Bent van der Bleu gave Helsinki the premier of his all new Drunken Sailor blend, a mix that is so enjoyable and fresh you just know you will be hoping for another serving of this very soon.
The Velvet Night Tea Room happened to be aboard ship, this did mean that we was boarded by the pirate that is Helsinki HotDog Frank Doggenstein. It seems that someone stole his treasure that he normally keeps hidden in his Tea Pot, all he had was a very poor treasure map and needed help. After helping him he was on his jolly way with piracy in his heart once more.
The Final blend of the evening was another new delight from the Helsinki HellCat Bettie Blackheart. This was just amazing and I have had trouble trying to find the right way to describe this, and just cant. Bettie served up something so special that many of us were really moved and left feeling that we had just witnessed something very personal and intimate.
I should mention that the gramophone for the evening was kept wound by DJ Mekaanikko.
A big thank you to the organisers for what was a wonderful first Velvet Night Tea Room.
